Loaded ordnance and open access panels...

Time to pick your brains again!

Does anyone have categoric proof that an access panel or panels can be opened up on an aircraft that has live ordnance loaded on the pylons? Specifically, on my large scale SBD-5 Dauntless build I have depicted the engine panels off, but I really wanted to show ordnance on the centreline and wing pylons. Everyone I've talked to says 'no'.... Some people say that it is my model, and I can display it how I want. I'm thinking it would be unrealistic to do so.

Are there any instances in which maintenance could be done in such a situation?

I've probably already answered my own question, but I'd be intrigued to hear of any instances where rules were disobeyed.

I think it would depend on the type of panel and location. A panel designed for quick release shouldn't be a problem they don't provide much structural support. A structural panel that is only designed to come off at some specified maintenance event I would say probably not if it is adjacent to an external load or even if there is any external load on that wing or fuselage area. It would be possible for the structure to distort so much the panel couldn't be put back on. So if you got a plane loaded up and the fuel system fails, no problem pulling engine cowlings to change a pump, regulator or servo. A hydraulic cylinder blows seals in the wing next to a panel put in with structural screws you probably have to unload before pulling that one.

What I'd really love if for someone to post a photo showing a bombed up aircraft with some maintenance going on..
