Someone needs to set up a "Go Fund Me" campaign to collect contributions to save these.

That C-119 at Edwards was the one to get. I would have bought both with the intent of supporting the C model.

I'm in the middle of bringing back an old Warbird that's been sitting for too long so I already have something breaking the bank. That box would sure be cool to do.

All donations are tax deductible as the Stockton Field Aviation Museum is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Tell a friend as the Harpoon needs all the help she can get.

Thank you!

Thanks Taigh for replying on this. I think the wix clan would be willing to try and gather some money so that someone, like yourself  , could get it without having to spend a dime on it.

I would love to but it sounds like the C-119C is gone. The other has a broken wing spar and is not a good candidate, economically, for flight. The C-123 would be a good one to save though and I would bet that it has some interesting history too.

Not exactly on subject, but in 1962 as a control tower operator at Castle AFB, one evening a flight of 2 C-119's called in VFR for landing instructions whom requested a 360 overhead approach...Really neat watching them break right over tower to let down and land....Just Observin'..

Group,

I am currently working with a non-profit and GSA, trying to get the aircraft pulled from the auction.
If we succeed, the aircraft will be restore to static display and displayed in the local area.
I have tentative arrangements to store the C-123 at Edwards until it can be moved.
I have also talked to Fox Field, and it will cost $150 a month to store the aircraft until it can be moved.
(may be able to go through LA County and get the fees waived, which I have not tried yet).

The last word from GSA today, was that it was too late to pull the aircraft, and I would have to bid on them.
I do not think I will be successful, but I am still trying.

Laterrrrrrr

Are the two of you working together on this?

WingsPalette has a sideview drawing of this one (54-683, caption says 55- but the image is correct):

Mr. Brame,

Here is the email from the GSA: (I edited out the contact information contained in the email)

I am sorry but unfortunately we cannot do that unless you are already an established non profit and in the States database of eligible donees. We do not donate directly to any body only to the State and they in turn distribute property to their eligible non-profits. The person you need to contact is Pat with the State Agency in Sacramento. These aircraft are to far in the sales process to pull back and we have no control over the cost and you would have to bid like everyone else.

Please contact Pat once you have your non-profit status back and she will help you through the application process and we will most likely have other aircraft that will suit your needs in the future.

I was still hoping that if I got the Non-Profit (authorized by the state), I could still get the planes pulled.
Tonight the non-profit backed out, saying it was to big a task to take on.
So now the only chance of getting the aircraft is to bid. (back to plan A)
I do not think the heavy bidders will enter the bidding until next week.
Hopefully the prices will not go to much higher, and I can place a bid on them.

Laterrrrrrr

Group,

I would like to thank the Non-profit group who I talked to, who when out of there way to discuss this project on short notice. They got together and discussed this, and I am sure made a hard decision that they could not take on a project this big.

Thank You
Avn-Tech

Any idea who the other bidders might be?
I just want to see it saved and not scrapped...I don't really care who does the Good deed.

Best wishes to all.

JohnB,

I have no idea who the current bidders are.

Hopefully, I will be placing a bid on Monday.
I was hoping to bid on both aircraft, but the prices are too high.
I hope to still be able to bid on one of the aircraft.
