Hi
I am a new member of this forum, my English is not perfect and I am sorry for mistakes.
So, I am a modeller from Poland and I am in need with some information about painting scheme P-38 F-5E Lightning from 13th Reconnaissance Squadron. I'm collecting materials to build Lightning crashed in Germany 16-Sep-44 bu/no 43-28990, Pilot 1st Lt Donald B. Bayne, 13th Squadron, 7th Photo Group.
What I need is painting scheme aircraft served in this squadron [bu/no location on fuselage/engine/tail], any colour elements on propeller ets. Any help are welcome.

I love the paint scheme on RUTH.

I recall seeing a photo years ago of an F-5 flying at maybe 50ft over a beach (Normandy?) and you can see an engine and the aircraft shadow. Very cool. if only I could find it again.

Anyone know the story on the banged up one with the Halifax rudder wrapped around it?

I found this print with F-5E from 13th PS, I hope 43-28990 had same paint.

Invader26

No 1 PRU, RAAF operated 3 F-4 Lightnings and came close to making it 6.

No 75 Sqn operated 2 F-4s on loan from the 8th PRS.

You'll find heaps of information and photos here:

Wow! A lot of great F-5 photos I haven't seen elsewhere.

I have a related request that hasn't turned up anything via Google: Looking for info (photos if any exist) on F-5A's operated by the 5th PRG (15th AF) - markings, colors, etc. Specifically, a friend of mine's father (Maj Jim Setchell) flew F-5A-10-LO 42-13123 in the 32nd PRS. He was shot down off the coast of Greece on 11 Sept 44, but bailed out and was rescued by Greek partisans, and eventually made it back to his base. He passed away in the 1960's, and I wanted to make a model of the aircraft for my friend. I did find one photo on the 15th AF history page, showing the tail shot up, apparently with a 'Haze' camouflage. The tail codes showed "3123" (in yellow?) and "123" in white, along with "P14A" (color?).

Any help appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Al

Very impressed with the quality of this collection! Near and dear to me as my grandpa flew with the 28th PRS.

Any additional photos specifically from the 28th PRS? Any information as far as plane serial numbers?

Thanks!
