This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Thanks Leon! That means a lot!

I will be bringing a truck and car trailer, some straps, come along, and some extra hands. Sometime this year, when the ground dries up of course. I can't wait to meet up with you again.

Fantastic Job!
It always feels soooo good to save a piece of aviation history no matter how big or small!
Keep growing!

The HUP is my favourite helicopter. It's really cool that you own two!

Nathan, way to go! It's a different feeling fer sure.....I still can't get over the fact that I joined the club....I never in my wildest dreams ever thought I would be an owner of one , much less be able to hang around other folks who own and really fly their warbird....It just goes to show that the old saying about aviation being a common denominator is true...You can't get any more "comoner" than me, and now look, in the past 8 years I have owned 4 warbirds....very static, but warbirds just the same...so good on you!

You are correct, sir!!!
Dude, congrats!!! You are right, many people say that they wish they could afford to save an airplane. You don't need tons of money (although it helps) to start moving in the right direction.
A piece here, another over there, and you already have a sizable collection.
In Spanish: Felicitaciones!!! Congratulations, Nathan.
When Ohio thaws and you see Leon, say hi for me.
Saludos,
Tulio

Congratulations and kudos, Nathan! If I had the storage space, I'd probably be doing the same thing. Um... if She Who Must Be Obeyed would allow it, that is... and that's not very likely...
Since this thread revolves around antique air-thrashers from our pals at Piasecki, I feel obligated to share the following three photos with all y'all. The pics are property of my friend Pete Wingard, who appears in the first photo. Please do not re-post them anywhere. They were shot aboard the USS Roosevelt and USS Ranger during the mid to late 1950s (Pete didn't give me the dates).

A little internet sleuthing turned up a sad photo of 130022 in a scrap yard near Tucson in 2007.

Nathan, dude, you rock!
Great score and what an awesome machine. I will be on the look-out for parts for you out west here in AZ. I remember a couple of little forelorn HUPs in Don Howell's scrap yard down in Tucson years ago, and always thought they were just neat. I am glad you think so, too. They are a rare beast!
I'll expect you to add me to your e-mail chain once you get your "needs list" up and going. I'm here to help with raising your "twins."
Good job, sir. I'm impressed. Let me know what I can do to assist and encourage you with your new venture.

I have the same problem. She insists I am trying to turn our backyard into an aircraft boneyard.

I really don't have that in mind.
Thanks all for the kind words. It has meant a lot to me all the nice things said. I'll keep trying.
