Thanks for the replies!
Taigh, I may be in touch about your generous offer!
Dana, I may have worded my query poorly.
I have an interest in possibly painting a T-28C project one day in the future, and I like the original factory Orange-Yellow scheme (ANA 506) the best. Some of the original yellow parts that I have, in original sealed boxes, do not match the Fed-Std cross-over number FS 13538 very well in my opinion. These parts are from the 1955-1957 time frame. Maybe 1943 ANA 506 had changed by 1956. I just wanted to compare the ANA 506 chip to these parts. (Maybe lacquer painted parts kept in cardboard boxes change color with time too!?)
Another scheme that is of interest to me is the T-28 scheme of the 1960 to 1964 time frame. It is Fluorescent Red-Orange (ANA 633) and White. This scheme is not to be confused with the the later, and more practical to maintain, International Orange (FS 12197) and White scheme.
I don't think there is one civilian T-28 currently painted to represent the 1960-1964 scheme. (This scheme has the front half of the wings, the nose, lower fuselage, stabilizers, and vertical fin painted ANA 633, with the balance White.)
I do have a T-28C rudder painted in ANA 633, but it is faded. The Fed-Std cross-over from ANA 633 is FS 28913. It may be a perfect match, but from what I have read about the cross-over from the ANA system to FS system, the colors were not identical, but were "pretty close". The Munsell numbers published show they are different between the two systems, and unfortunately the Munsell numbers for the ANA fluorescent colors are missing completely. I am not sure if the samples were deemed unworthy to test due to the nature of the fluorescent paints, or the samples were just missing to test. ANA 633 was used on many different type aircraft and rotorcraft, and all services. I find it hard to believe no sample cards exist. I would still like to have seen what a ANA 633 sample looked like, kept out of the light.
In the end, the Fed-Std cross-overs may be close enough, and I am beating my head against a wall. I just wanted to try and get it right!!
Thanks again.
