Warbird Information Exchange

It was great to see the Collings Foundation in the spotlight at Ellington today. The 262 was a nice surprise, would love to have seen the F-4 but the Hun was my favorite part of the day. I really enjoyed the Viet Nam show, lots of Jet A burned through that one! I really hope this becomes regular for future WOH shows.

I too hope the Collings' Vietnam demo becomes a mainstay. It was way cool seeing the F100 fly. The Messerschmitt and Osprey were cool too!
Not as many CAF warbirds as I expected. No Fifi, Diamond Lil, Yellow Rose, SBD, Jug, etc. Didn't see where they were scheduled anywhere else, so that is interesting. Also, no Rod Lewis warbirds, like Glacier Girl or one of his Tigercats. Nice to see other orgs step up though.

I love the F-100F. My uncle flew those so they have a particular fascination for me.

A couple questions:

First, whose UC-78? It looks really nice and I don't think I've ever seen one fly?

Second, was that a CAF Lodestar I saw? Looks good! Anymore pics? I've always been interested in that aircraft and it's relatives (Hudson, Ventura, Harpoon, etc.).

I just want to make sure the credit is given to where it is due. It was not a Collings Foundation Vietnam demo as quite a few of the aircraft and helicopters taking part do not belong to The Collings Foundation. Rick Sharpe has the MIG's, Huey and Cobra that took part. It was a group effort to make that part of the show what it was. The air show committee also has to put out all of the $ for the massive amounts of fuel used.

No intent to take away from any other people or group that were involved. Thanks for setting me straight. It was a treat to see all of the aircraft that made up that demo.

The UC-78 pics are apparently from another airshow, it wasn't at Ellington over the weekend. Nice looking machine!

The Lodestar is indeed a CAF ship, N60JT with the Houston Wing. That's my ugly mug in the left seat, landing Friday evening after a photo flight. Fun stuff. There are a few pics of this Lodestar posted here and there, just search the tail number.

The warbird show had some really cool planes; multiple Mustangs, Corsairs, P-40s, a Bearcat... but the heavy lineup seemed a bit light. Just a B-17 (Tx Raiders), B-25, A-26, PV-2 Harpoon; on Sunday the "bomber stream" was just the B-17, B-25 and A-26. I too was rather surprised by no Fifi, Diamond Lil, Yellow Rose/Devil Dog, plus no Rod Lewis stuff. Ah well, the Vietnam demo made up for it, it was freakin' awesome!

Looks like a great show - wish I could have made this one!
