As often as I can, I volunteer to show support and gratitude to all of those that have served by riding escort and standing a flag line as a Patriot Guard member. Every mission has a different feel, there are welcome home missions, deployments and funerals to name the most common. Some are harder to handle than others, all are emotional. News like the following is rare and I thought some here would appreciate and possibly research it. I won't be able to make this mission but my thoughts and thanks are with the family. From the Patriot Guard email:

Sergeant David R. Kittredge US Army Air Corps KIA World War II – Repatriation
Greenbay, WI August 11 and 13, 2014

The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) announced today that two U.S. servicemen, missing from World War II, have been identified and are being returned to their families for burial with full military honors. David R. Kittredge, 22, of Oneida, WI will be coming home after nearly 70 years.

On April 16, 1945, three aircraft were flying in a formation on a bombing raid to Wittenberg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany, when the pilots of two other aircraft reported seeing Howard and Kittredge's aircraft hit by enemy fire. JPAC had reports of the accident and began investigating and based on medical records have identified Sergeant's Howard and Kittredge.
