Are you sure you're not thinking of a Skyraider?

I think the reference is to the gear doors which are in fact, along with the main gear, the dive brakes. There is a selection on the landing gear control for dive brakes which lowers the mains, but not the tail.

In this picture, the wingtips look exactly the same color as the wing roundels (blue-white-blue) to me.

Also notice that the prop tips seem to be something-white-something, not the standard yellow. My guess is that blue again. If you're going to trim the prop tips in blue (which would be a horrible color for prop tips, BTW), doesn't it make sense that the rest of the trim on the airplane is also blue?

But I'll happily eat warbird crow if someone can post a REAL color photo of any of these gray FAS Corsairs. Until then, we're all just arguing opinions.

Hi! no it's not "K". "K" had a similar scheme like the "T-bird white" type and was some 300 yds away.

p.s Do you have pics of "K" when it arrived at the W. coast poss Long beach?? All these pics are also the legacy of Frank!

Unfortunately no. I was just a dumb kid with an Instamatic back then and never took more than a couple of photos that really don't show much. All that has changed is I now have a better camera and I'm no longer a kid.
