So the main runway is still down after all this time ?
Plan on going in SAT and/or SUN but FRI I plan on a spot outside the airport.
Ecorse might be a go for early part of practice but they boot everyone out before the TBirds. I have many alternate spots as I have been going to Ypsi shows for decades, but really helps to know which runway will see the main use.

I really wish this AirShow was next year's as I would love to have been able to attend along with our C-47 which will definitely be flying by then.

2015 will be just as sweet, Tyler, as your group will be hauling that "Best WWII Transport" trophy home from Wisconsin.

Lol, that would be nice! We are working with a paint supplier right now, so hopefully within the next month or two, she will be once again in her uniform! I'm getting really antsy to see it painted, but I have to keep reminding myself slow and steady wins the race.

23L is still down? How is that Baltia 747 going to land there?

looks like 14/32 is also down until November - good in a way that it isolates runway useage to just 2 runways now

06/034 - RWY 14/32 CLSD EXC TAXIING BTN RWY 5L/23R AND TWY G DAILY SR-SS. 16 JUN 12:59
2014 UNTIL 15 NOV 23:00 2014 ESTIMATED. CREATED: 16 JUN 13:00 2014

Which runway will be in use? Good luck with that one - that all depends on the winds. Last year on Friday we were out there with scanners. Most of the planes landed on 5L in the morning, but the F-100 landed on 9. Then the A-4 landed on 32 so we moved over there until we saw planes start landing on 23R. We head over to 23R only to have the C-123 land on 32.

I personally hope 5L is in use for the morning since that is the best light and I don't think we will get kicked out of there for the T-birds practice (since I have watched the Blue Angels there with no problems), then maybe late afternoon early evening (after T-birds) the wind shifts and they use 23F

Don't think wind will be a factor as far as show flying, as the crowd line is pretty much set in stone... But yes, takeoffs & landings can always be hit or miss.
Up until about 5 years ago or so, when a premium act was flying and ecorse road was out, I used to camp out by some baseball diamonds [red line/circle] for a great view, all the aircraft flying the show flew this line.
Went there one year and they changed, they were flying about a mile or so west [yellow line/circle], so I changed spots and am not too crazy about it. I have tried the tracks before but you are hemmed in by trees all the way around, not easy finding a good spot [never tried anything on the 94 side].

By the way, don't want to encourage people to watch from outside the base on show days, but at lest on FRI practice and fly in, thats the best option for most. Selfridge I have nailed down with great spots, you already know which runway they'll be flying there. Ypsi is more elusive, I miss the days when they let people camp out outside the fence.

Tentative Schedule for both days of the show has been posted on the web site:

http://www.yankeeairmuseum.org/airshow/schedule/

Doesn't look too bad at all. Looking forward to seeing the dual flybys of the Liberator and Privateer! Don't know if we will get any more additions to the lineup that might be added into the schedule, but always good to get more just in case there are any last minute problems with any aircraft getting there for the show.

But in any case, it looks very good and I am really looking forward to this show in just over 4 weeks now.

:D

The PB4Y-2 Privateer will NOT be making it to Thunder next month it looks like. :(

It was reported over on the Gosshawk Unlimited Facebook page.

https://www.facebook.com/GossHawkUnlimitedInc

It was going to be a highlight, but these things happen. Hopefully we can get at least one or two more nice additions to the lineup to at least partially make up for it.

This year the setup will be a mirror image so the hot ramp will be next to what's left of the airpark so the airpark will be off limits. Flight box will mean no onlookers from Ecorse this year. Those folks will have to buy tickets this year like the rest of us.

Just curious if after the taxiway photography is over on Friday afternoon will we still be able to go over to Ecorse Rd and watch the late arrivals?

A Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) CH-146 Griffon Helicopter from Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden, Ontario, will be on static display at the Baltia Air Lines Thunder over Michigan show on August 9 and 10, 2014. This is the first time in the show's history that two foreign countries will participate. Three weeks from this weekend people!

Cheers,

Tom Walsh.

Will Yankee Warrior be ready for the show - or is it too early to tell?
