Had my house rattled (big time) by a low-flying CH-47 Chinook this afternoon.

Bear with me on the following narrative. It eventually leads to a "What airplane did you see flying?" sighting.

This past Monday, the 24th, Cindy and I were back in Punta Gorda to attend my Mom's funeral. The service was held outdoors at Ponce de Leon Park along the shore of Charlotte Harbor. One of my fondest memories of my Mom is from about 15 years ago, when she and I went up for a ride in a classic Waco UPF-7 biplane. We flew all around Punta Gorda and the rest of Charlotte County in that open cockpit beastie. What a grand time we had, dressed in matching distressed leather flying jackets, leather helmets, big goggles, and long, white silk scarves! Neither of us could wipe the silly grins from our faces for the next several days. It's a memory that I will take with me forever. During the funeral service, I heard the grumble of an approaching radial engine. I kept fighting the urge to look up, but the closer it got, the sweeter it sounded, and the less resistance I could muster. As the approaching airplane was just about overhead, I finally gave in and looked up. What I saw both broke my heart and lifted my spirit straight up to Heaven. The airplane flying overhead was a Waco UPF-7.

This morning around 9:30-9:45 I heard a big, many-rotor helo approaching. I spotted it coming in the distance straight at me and saw that it was a biggie. Huge rotors, odd, gangly shape and then I recognized the nasty melon orange paint as I got a good look at an Ericson/Sikorsky Skycrane. He was traveling empty and heading roughly SE and more or less following US290 towards Hotsun.
Three years ago during the bad drought and wildfires in Texas there was at least one of those working the Texas fires. I saw it parked a couple of times at the Huntsville,Tx. airport, passing it on road trips with work.

No idea what's going on, but there has been a lot of P-3 activity out of NAS Whidbey in the last 3 or 4 days, all the ALLISON humming sort of breaks up the GROWLER exhaust noise overhead. (not that I mind at all)

T-38s! Two flights of two each, taking off from Rwy 16 at Fort Worth Alliance Airport (KAFW). The USAF and USN do a lot of training in and out of AFW. Not sure whose these were. The paint was very dark gray.

On Mar. 21st, after a salutory flyby, VAQ-129 'VIKINGS' went out of the EA-6B business, having been the first squadron to operate them since Sept. of 1970, from N.A.S. Whidbey Island and are 100% EA-18 GROWLERS.

Spotted going in to KGYR (Phoenix Goodyear Airport) this morning being piloted by Steve Hinton. As usual Steve was the consumate gentleman and it was a pleasure to speak with him. The Tigercat is immaculate and I hope to see it again at the PoF airshow in May.

On Friday, April 18, late in the morning, I was overflown by a round engine warbird, hearing it before we saw it and easily recognized Tora Kate N2047. Green fuselage with a big meatball, yellow tail band and a big white diagonal stripe down the aft fuselage. No ext. ordinance on board.
It was flying low and slow cruising eastbound over Brenham, more or less following US 290. I've seen warbirds based in this area following this route before.

I got to watch the Blue Angels doing their practice today for this weekend's air show at NAS Fort Worth. I just stood on our hangar ramp and watched 'em do their thing (about 5 miles away, however).
