Warbird Information Exchange

I thought for my first / newbie post I would submit a photograph from my family photo album.

This photo is of my young cousin taken most likely in the 1950's (?) outside of Dyer, Nevada. On the back of the photo it reads: "Pilot lost. Landed at Ranch to obtain directions"

I thought the Board might find it of interest. Perhaps a remote chance of identifying the Mustang?

Nice opening!!
Best I can make it out the s/n is 447 (5 ?) 0111 in a block of P-51D-30-NA aircraft but that s/n is in another deep hole in Baughers lists.

Interesting... ANG bird maybe? That's an odd place for the buzz number. At any rate it might be earlier than the 1950s since the buzz number prefix is PF rather than FF; maybe 1948 at the latest?
Edit: I zoomed in on the data block, and tried to make it more readable. I was hoping that top line would name the field it was assigned to, but it's still fuzzy:

It does say U.S. Army rather than U.S. Air Force, so that narrows down the date.

mmmmm....the report shows that it landed in AZ with a mechanical failure? This would be my Uncle's ranch (Errett Loban Cord) he had a place in Nevada (The Circle L). Pre 1950 would be correct I would guess as they had the place then and there was no date on the reverse of the photo. I guessed early 1950's, just trying to guess the age of the cousin at the time. Cheers.

My Uncle was a rather interesting guy and was very much into aviation (this is him...far right with Lindbergh: http://www.aerospacelegacyfoundation.com/img126.gif ). I need to go through all the albums....There are tons of old images of aircraft and faces that might be familiar to you guys. I just went through one of them looking for WWII aircraft. My cousins also have family photo archives that I might can borrow to scan through.
