All Spanish Buchons with D-Bs bolted on the front, none currently airworthy AFAIK (all broken )

Correct, WNr 3579, with 1.(J)/LG 2. An absolutely stunning aircraft, if only I had the money...!

Obviously the "Me" in "Me-109" is a reference to Messerschmitt, but what is the significance of the "Bf" in the alternative "Bf-109" designation - and is one more correct than the other?

I have assumed over the years that the "Me-109" designation was simply a possibly incorrect, English/American/Allied designation and that the "Bf-109" designation was for whatever reason the truly correct German designation, but I decided to stop assuming and actually ask the "experts" here...

Yep, she was 'White 14' at the time, and is restored to the same scheme.

Here she is taxiing out for what I'm 99.9% sure was her last flight on July 25, 2010 from Tillsonburg back to Niagara South Airport. The prop was due to expire in a day or so.

Bf is for Bayriche Flugzeug Werke - or Bavarian Aircraft Works. Originally associated with BMW (Bayriche Motoren Werke)
Willi Messerschmitt became head of the the company and renamed it Messerschmitt A.G..
Designs after the change would properly be "Me" rather than "Bf". Willi was also a shameless self-promoter, and Bf products were referred to in company literature and mainstream literature as Me's.

Officially it's a Bf109, but both were used interchangably

Not flying yet, but...

Midwest Aero has a very complete, original Bf-109G under restoration to fly (I believe it is owned by Bruce Winter, owner of the P-51 "Happy Jack's Go Buggy"). They already have a complete, overhauled DB605 and another spare.

MeierMotors has an original Bf-109E under restoration for Robs Lamplaugh (UK), an original Bf-109G nearing completion and a Buchon (to be converted to a Bf-109G-12) for the Air Fighter Academy (Germany), and a Bf-109G (a Buchon conversion) nearing completion for Jerry Yagen.

There is also a Bf-109E awaiting the completion of wings, I believe, which it too will be headed for the Air Fighter Academy - and will be a flyer as well.

Anyone know what became of the Bf-109E that was being restored for Jerry Yagen? I haven't heard/seen anything on that project for a long time.

Outside of the Flying Heritage Collection's Bf-109E being the only '109 currently active, the only Buchons currently active are the two based at Duxford.

Isn't there one currently on display that is in the "que" to be restored...some sort of recovery. I believe it is another Friedkin Air Force plane....

René Meyer from France is rebuilding a Bf 109G-14.

Isn't the engine required to be overhauled every 100 hours due to no documentation on the type?
