We should be ashamed that the majority of the comments are about the NOSE ART piece hanging on the wall.Which may or may not go on the completed airplane.

FWIW, this isn't the only WIX thread that exists regarding the restoration of this particular aircraft. It's one of many, as is the current conversation regarding its nose art possibilities. I figure it would be wisest to include those previous threads into the decision making process if we're going to start counting percentage points toward the relative degree of "shame" we should all be feeling IMO.

That said, I can't wait to see the major components for this bad boy fully assembled for its first public roll out!

Hi guys,
I do like more "Lady in the Dark" of the 548th NFS and a P-61-B too!
A very nice Nose-art, and did the last WWII kill in aug. 1945, without firing a shot!!
Last week I had still contact with Lady's Pilot Solie Solomon, Lee Kendall now (88 years now, he changed his name a long time ago!).

For a dutch P-61 and still flying!!
have a look on my homepage for this R/C scale model, scale 1:6,6. Span 122". A real winner on R/C Scale contests all over Europe, like my B-17 too: scale 1:8, span 156".

It may be PC for the kiddies, but it won't do a darn for their spelling.
I prefer "Lady in the Dark" and let the parents shield 'em from history until
their mature enough to view it....bout age 10 in this day and age.

Hmmmm... Must have been painted using the reflection of a mirror. The lettering is backwards...

Also, I'm not sure that racial slurs are appropriate for kids. At least that's the big city meaning I read into the name.

I was quite worried for those Dyslexic children we were about to unleash
on the world in our aspirations to be politically correct.

you can see where this is going....there's protesters...booze..

She is fully and fetchingly charming and fully clothed, I might add!! wooof...

I guess I will throw my theory out on the table. This is my theory and that is it.

For the last several years MAAM has had as a guest at the WW2 Weekend the Pilot of "Double Trouble", Bob Bolinder. He gives talks and sign photos at the show. It’s my thought what better way to pay tribute to someone who is involved with the museum and it is also a note worthy a/c in the black widow history (the crew shot down four aircraft).

That is my theory and something that I think would be great to see come about.

Ok, help a penguin out here. From what I understand one has to be type certified in a given plane to fly it. What happens in the case of an extinct flyer such as the P-61 bringing the flightworthy total up to 1. Who has the authority to fly/give check outs in this type?

And in my opinion, if MAAM deems it ok to put nose art of elvira on the wall of their hangar I don't think they would have any quarrels about putting lady in the dark on their black widow. After all Briefing Time is a tad risque.

I think MAAM can put anything on the nose, I won't complain one bit when I see it take to the air or sit idle on the ground. Either way it has been saved and on public display.

I think they would need to get a Very Highly Qualified Pilot that could read over flight manuals and is trusted not only by the museum but the government to go the proper job. This isn't the first time this hurtle has been dealt with. One person comes to mind right off that bat.

I’m sure many others can fill in specific details that I have no clue about.

For a test pilot for that a/c I would think the guys at aerotrader would be good. They have test flown a bunch od B-25s

I'm pretty sure the picture I posted is a picture of the original. This is the picture that made me fall in love with the widow, I've always wanted to see a P-61 painted like this...
