James, can you give us an update on what's been happening in the restoration shop there at Pima?

I am currently stuck in the frozen wasteland that is Chicago. Hopefully, I'll be on a plane out of here tonight sometime. Once I'm back at work I'll post some information.

James, Unfortunately not in Tucson

What material are you guys using on your outdoor canopies?

Is the USFS 310 an ex-U-3?

Surplus U-3s got around, some ended up with Army NG units and a few to the Navy.

Cool to see the Skyhawk restored in its Flight Systems colors!

The canopies are painted with white elastomeric paint (stuff they use on rooves) and then covered with a blue latex paint. It protects the canopies and the interiors but can be removed relatively easily if the plane is moved into a hangar.

Yes. It is serial number 58-2183.

Any talk of building more hangars...?

Can you post any photos of Bell 47s/H-13s?

Years ago, the museum had a TH-13K...a Navy Instrument trainer. I heard they traded it when the couldn't find a replacement canopy (it uses a special one and they only made a few "K"s).

Here are links to our Bell 47/H-13 examples:

As far as I can tell from our records we have never had any other members of the Bell 47 family.

I really like the "conserve where possible, restore only where necessary" approach used on the Wildcat.

That corrugated cutout behind the exhaust port is weird. The only other Wildcat I can recall seeing it on is the FM-2 in the Guadalcanal diorama at the Naval Aviation Museum. Is it some sort of field mod, or just an uncommon factory installation?
