I agree about saving the airplane. But I also think the Rolla journalist needs recognition. He did real research, I detected no grammar or spelling errors, and I enjoyed the article. If you've read a newspaper article recently, you know what I mean...

I'm currently reading a recently published biography by a Vietnam helicopter pilot. the spelling errors amaze me. Hopefully the proof reader wasn't overpaid. "Forgotten Field", are you an Educator?...............John

Absolutely amazing and touching story . I agree totally , this aircaft should be saved before it's too late . Amazing to think that a piece of history, with such provenance , is just lying there .

I wrote the story--thanks for the kind comments. I'm actually an archivist, not a journalist, and I've been working on the story for almost a year now. (I'm still conducting research on Lt. Sarrett's story.) Lt. Sarrett's family and the families of some of his fellow flyers have been very kind and generous with their information. I, too, would like to see the plane saved--as you say, it's got a documented provenance and a great story. Best, Bill

I work in Ada, Oklahoma and have had my Mooney hanagered here (KADH) for about 1 1/2 years now, but I knew nothing about this story, this pilot or this aircraft until making a Thanksgiving trip to Rolla, Mo to visit family.

My wife's parents recently bought a house just a few miles north of this airport, and of course I had to explore it during holiday weekend down time. I stumbled upon a local pilot who told me this story when he learned I was from Oklahoma.

My immediate reaction was that this aircraft needs to be in Ada!

The local EAA chapter has refurbished one aircraft previously for static display at the airport. This project would dwarf that little Bonanza.
I am going to share this news story at our next meeting and see if any Ada people know the history.

Today I was able to talk to the owners of Ada Red (Baron Aviation) to see if I could get it to Project Warbird and restore it. I was told that they would (NOT) let go of the planes. It was very disappointing to hear that. I didn't try to find out why, I just respected their choice. I would love to see these planes saved.

I would really like to know why they'd have them sit and rot. What are they???? Investments?!
