Wed Aug 07, 2013 9:36 am

LT(jg) H. Dale Hilton and ARM (Radioman) 2/c Jack Leaming, were just a few of the surviving SBD crews from 7 Dec to fly to Oahu that morning. In three months both Dale and Jack were Prisoners of War.

Mr Aiken,
This is Curtis Leaming, Jack Leamings son. I regret to tell you but my father died early Monday morning.
He had went out dancing on Saturday night and upon leaving collapsed and was found unconscious. He was not able to be revived. My dad was a man of great integrity and I never knew how many people he had touched in his life based on the out pouring of grief of his passing.
He had friendships with all his neighbors being a help to them when they needed it.
I am very much in grief of his passing. I know you were friends and I wanted to tell you.
We are making arragements for him. My sister is here with me helping me take care of important matters. Please call or email me if you would like to know more details or would like to communicate anything with us.
Thank you and I hope you will notify any of the people he may have known. It is hard finding out who to contact. If you have any info to help us. It would be appreciated.

:( Curtis Leaming

Howdy Curt,
Thank you for keeping me in the loop and, now, of his passing. He was the last of the BIG E SBD crew of 7 Dec 1941.

I was so pleased to re-connect him with his pilot, whom Jack had thought had past away...and later did.

Glad you sent this info on to me. All of the crewmen that flew with Jack to Oahu are now gone. A few of the families have maintained contact, so I am including those with whom I have e-mails.... please give all the family my sincerest sympathy in his passing. He lived a full life and I was highly honored to have helped him and vice-versa on our mutual BIG E interest.

My slowest salute is in my highest respect.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
David Aiken
