I always enjoyed seeing the TBM "Ida Red" at Thunder. I think that she's still based in southeast Michigan somewhere. Beautiful, airworthy example of a TBM wearing Atlantic markings.

Announced today on another forum and on the Thunder Facebook page:

"An Airshow First, and the first Heritage Flight of this kind performed. The Heritage Flight will feature the F-100 Super Sabre, F-86 Sabre "Smokey", P-51 Mustang "Baby Duck". Will be an amazing sight."

This will be an unbelievable highlight for this year's show: THREE separate generations of North American Aviation fighter aircraft together in one formation!

:D

Maybe some people will buy into that kind of nonsense, but unless you were talking about a Sabre chase plane owned by Boeing and a picture of it flying with a "real" Boeing product, I would never want to see it on a Boeing anniversary T-shirt.

I'm with you Jim. They were built by NAA and you can't change that historical fact!

Cheers,

The North American Aviation F-86 Sabre Jet broke the sound barrier and set a world speed record of 670 miles per hour in September 1948. North American is now part of the Boeing heritage, and the people of Boeing are still setting records today. This collectible T-shirt commemorates 97 years of Boeing innovation.

To be fair, they are not claiming that Boeing made the F-86, and it isn't the F-86's (or even North American's) 97th anniversary.

But where's the fun in being fair?

And they are claiming by association that the F-86 is part of this '97 years of Boeing innovation'.

It is a flat out lie, not an exaggeration or stretch of the truth, to imply much less claim that the F-86 is part of Boeings history of innovation.
They have enough military aviation history to crow about without resorting to pure BS like this. Are they claiming the P-51 and X-15 too ?

...and to add to the confusion, the Boeing chase Sabres were built by Canadair in Montreal, Canada.

Most of the flying Sabres in North America today are Canadian built, but in the case of Thunder's "Heritage Flight" this should be a "pure" NAA formation since "Smokey" the Sabre from the Warbird Heritage Foundation is a J47 powered North American F-86F model.

Really looking forward to an exceptional warbird display in Michigan in just over two weeks!

Even though I have seen each plane - Baby Duck, F-86 Smokey and the F-100 before, I have never seen them together.

Get Yankee Warrior to fly with the P-51, F-86 and F-100 and we got a nice North American Collection up there.

I believe it's a Fighter Flight only.
