Very disappointed in Sun N Fun so far this year due to lack of warbird turn out. Hopefully some stuff will arrive Friday - but hard to say since the weather forecast has been terrible. Looks like at least Oshgosh has some good planned warbirds.

As most already know, one of the reasons OSH annually hosts droves of Texans and Trojans (and Mustangs) is due to the NATA formation clinics held the week before.

From July 26-29, the Trojan bunch will be training out of Sheboygan, WI; with most then continuing up to Wittman.

And from July 25-28, the SNJ/Texan/Harvard clan will be swarming the skies over Dubuque, IA.

The NATA website indicates Dubuque will be marking the 75th Anniversary of flight for the Texan, to be continued at OSH.

Airventure regularly puts together impressive formations of both types; perhaps this summer even more so.

The past two years I have been able to stop by Oshkosh for just a day while passing through the Midwest and usually I try to make it either on a Thursday or Friday. It's been years and years since I have spent any real time at Oshkosh so I haven't seen anything that resembles an 'airshow' there in a long time. I realize it's catered more towards a convention and gathering rather than an airshow. But if I recall from when I was young, there seemed to be much more to the airshow portion that what happens today. If I remember correctly there was some sort of 'airshow' each day and warbirds did fly each day if I recall. Is this still true? or are there only certain days now that warbirds fly only.

As much as I don't attend Oshkosh as I did when I was young with my dad, I always had a fondness for the place. Loved getting lost from dad as I walked for hours looking at airplanes. And sleeping under the wing of dad's planes was a great time as well.

May just show up again this year for an extended stay.

I've been to a LOT of air shows over the years, and by your statement I'm thinking that my definition of an air show must differ from yours Mark. EAA has air show performances every day of "Oshkosh" starting generally around 2-3pm and going till about 5-5:30pm. It sometimes starts earlier and/or goes later depending on the acts, such as the night air shows (and of course the weather).

There are typically one to two warbird-heavy shows during the week. The schedule is still being developed at this time, so I couldn't tell you which days those will be this year at this point. You are right though, people often forget that this is not just an air show - it's also an annual members' convention and aviation trade show. It's also not specifically a warbirds event. Warbirds are really just a small part of what EAA is all about.

I omitted clarity in my point Zack, your statement above is were my thoughts were going. And yes I've been a bit spoiled out here on the west coast as I usually attend warbird heavy airshows. Don't get me wrong though, OSH is still very much enjoyable for me when I have the time to attend even for one day. I enjoy a warbird sitting on the ground just as much as seeing one in the air.

A little birdie (vulture?) informed me that Chuck Wahl is planning to bring his award-winning SNJ-5C back for more drool. Look for him to convoy up with the NATA bunch from Iowa.
