Fantastic news! It's nice to see the TWA Connie on her way back to flight status. It's been too long since we've had a Connie on the airshow circuit here in the US.
Also nice to see that DC-3 coming together. I remember talking to some people in that group ten years ago at an airshow at Goshen and they were starting to make progress on it then.
Great group of people. Here's hoping they don't suffer any more setbacks.

Ralph Pettersen's "Propliner Round-Up" in the March 2011 issue of "Air Classics" magazine has some new information on the status of returning the AHM's L-1049H "Super G" Constellation to airworthy status. Of note is that the Museum plans to run the 4 engines about once a month while working on plans to return the Connie to the air. Ralph also notes that that the AHM "estimates that it will cost another $60,000" to get it flying once more.
Thanks for a great update on the Connie and several other vintage propliners, Ralph!
What a day it will be when this beautiful propliner will be back in the air and flying to air shows again.

The $60,000 figure is for the DC-3 not the Connie.

Sorry. I got too excited about the Super Connie part in the "Air Classics" "Propliner Round-Up" bit on the AHM and glossed over the part about the DC-3 before I saw the $60,000 figure. DC-3's are nice, but don't nearly get me going as a Connie does for a couple of reasons - I just love big propliners (mostly 4 engine and mostly those with individual engine horsepower exceeding 2,000) and the fact that there are quite a few airworthy DC-3's/C-47's, etc. out there, but only ONE Connie currently flying and NONE in the U.S.

Great news from the Airline History Museum in Kansas City! Hope the plan works out, it will be fantastic to see this beauty back in the air in 2014.

Excellent news, Jim - thanks for bringing this to our attention. I see they're planning on going to Oshkosh in 2014 too; let's hope the Lufthansa Constellation does the same, and it could become an Oshkosh to remember.

I am cautiously optimistic that this may be able to happen next year. Getting the plane certified to fly by then with a qualified flight crew may not be easy to accomplish, but I have my fingers crossed.
I agree that it would be fantastic to see both the TWA "Super G" Connie from KC and the Lufthansa Starliner at Oshkosh in July/August 2014, but I do not know if the restoration and flight testing will be completed up in Maine by then or not. But having both of these great vintage airliners together would make EAA AirVenture next year an event not to miss.

There are now three Lockheeds at Downtown Airport....L1011, Connie, and Harpoon!
