I think that was the fuselage that came to the MAAM for the interior and was later scrapped (see earlier post about WWII Weekend and "hump jumper".) I understood that this fuselage was purchased from NASM as being spare to their needs and not a complete airframe.

Got to see them put the MAAM viscount back in the air at Chino in 1992. They had a retired British Airways pilot Richard Davies (who lives in Texas) come out and fly it. I wrote an article about it that was published in a few places, including Wingspan. I didn't get paid on that one- (ripped off-only time that happened ) and only got a xerox copy I think from a friend in England. Thankfully I just found the issue on Amazon and ordered it (Wingspan December 94) Ill try to scan it and put it up here. Anyway, it was pretty cool to see it and I got to meet the MAAM principles and some retired Capital airlines people.

Was that the long time Chino resident owned by Sam (I forgot his last name) who used to fly cargo in it. I think his son was also a pilot on it. He had the Doobie Bros. Martins as well as I recall.

Yea looks like Sam Stewart did own it. Owned by Monarch Aircraft at Chino till 1989 when Tony Abad bought it. Monarch Aircraft is listed as a Sam Stewart company. Hmm didn't know that thanks. Remember his Doobie Martin well, now it's a static display. Got my magazine with my article , will get it up here when I can.

MAAM's Viscount was originally intended for Capital as part of an order of 15 additional Viscounts for the airline, but by that point in time Capital was having financial difficulties and Vickers Armstrong never completed the deal. Eventually, some of the additional Viscounts were transferred to Capital in a restructuring deal (either 6 or 9 of them, I don't have my noted in front of me), but this one was not and was sold elsewhere.
Of the additional Viscounts that Capital acquired, two were lost in fatal accidents to add to two others that were lost, part of a total of seven fatal accidents that occurred between June 1957 and January 1960...high even by the standards of the day.
Approximately 1/3 of the Viscounts ordered by Capital ended up being lost in accidents with their subsequent operators. Almost all of the remaining airframes were scrapped, a good portion of them around 1968 - 69, but some lingered well into the 1990s. I believe there are two intact ex-Capital airframes on static display in South America, these being the only survivors from their entire fleet.

To Northeast as N6591C (msn 233) from whom it was repossessed by Vickers. 9 ex-NE Viscounts were sold at auction in 1963 including this one. Series of private owners before languishing at Chino and eventually donated to MAAM.

Only one (msn 226) I think and that was another that was "diverted" to Northeast, never flying for Capital. Several ex-Capital Viscounts did end up in Colombia and Ecuador but all have been scrapped AFAIK.

I believe one of the original Capital Viscounts is still extant as a static display in a park in Medellin, Colombia. The one in Ecuador is one of the "diverted" Viscounts.
