For the Corsair fans

David, unless I was mistaken, the outer wings appeared to be covered with fiberglass, not just Bondo. It certainly sounded like fiberglass when you tapped on it lightly. I'm sad that she's going "back" to stock, but I guess at the same time it was a pipe dream to think that anyone would ever get her flying in the racer configuration, even if just for a year or two at Reno. Take good care of her.

I know a few people have expressed their thoughts of having it remain in race configuration, but firstly that's not what the new owner wants and secondly not practical to fly and operate around the country for airshows.

I do hope you guys can salvage at least something from the wing. I had been told the wings were basically "new build", but I suspect that there was still a lot of stock structure under that fiberglass skin.

The FG-1D stock wing structure is metal skin fwd of the outer wing main spar with fabric over the majority of the remained structure aft of the spar.
The exception is the gunbay area. I would gather a few feet of wing was removed on each side which would have been the fabric covered area on a stock wing.
I would suspect the wings were metalized as many have been and it currently shows a surface filled with a thin layer of bondo or filler and a sandable primer.

So I says to myself..."Self...them Corsairs have three bladed props." And self says back to me, (after a bit of research) "You big dummy, FG1s didn't have four bladed props." I didn't know that.
