This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Was in Charleston for the weekend and was about to board the Yorktown when a dark blue Hellcat with a drop tank did a fly by. Never came back around just continued over the bridge and headed inland. Great experience, any clues as to which Hellcat that was? Also saw 2 C-17s taking off as we were on the way home on I-26 so they were probably from Shaw AFB.

Heard an approaching aircraft that caused me to hurriedly drop what I was doing and dash outside. It was a Mustang loping along directly over the house/shop. Great eye candy, beautiful music, and very nice to know my ears are so finely tuned.

There is a squadron of C-17s based in Charleston. None based at Shaw (wherever that is) that I am aware of.

Fullerton, Ca airport had an open house on Saturday. I took my son there after his soccer game. The resident T-6 did some flypasts. My son got to fly an electric u-control plane, with some help, courtesy of the local model airplane club.
On Sunday I saw a Beech Starship fly over Chino.

Thanks!
I went on Friday and Sunday. Great show despite the low clouds and cool temps.
Here's one from Friday. Just so cool to see!

Thanks, I hadn't thought of Charleston AFB, it seemed we were too far north when I saw them. Shaw AFB is in Sumter SC.

No telling what base a C-17 might be visiting of course. Looks like C-17s are frequent visitors to Shaw:

Not an AIRPLANE. Not even an AIRCRAFT. But definitely a SPACECRAFT! Two of them, in fact. Tonight from my backyard in Decatur, Texas, I just caught the ISS and the Dragon spacecraft as the went out of sight. It is incredible how bright the ISS is! It took me a while to realize what it was and then confirm on the NASA website. Very cool, and so bright that I probably could have got a picture with a decent camera and telephoto lens.

I saw 'em too, pretty cool, eh? FYI: Here's a great website for orbiting space stuff, either for predicting passes in advance, or ID'ing after the fact.
