Bell X-1 Replica

Sun Sep 23, 2012 10:41 pm

San Diego Aerospace Museum is building a replica of the X-1. Is that the only one out there? I know one was built for the movie The Right Stuff (although I don't know what happened to it after the movie).

I think three replicas were built for Right Stuff and since they used archived BELL 1/4 scale drawings to build them, with the advent of computers and their being so much more accurate than slide rules, the models actually came up slightly larger than the actual aircraft but much closer to the size the BELL engineers were actually shooting for in 1946.

I know Edwards Flight Test Museum has one.
