A place where restoration project-type threads can go to avoid falling off the main page in the WIX hangar. Feel free to start threads on Restoration projects and/or warbird maintenance here. Named in memoriam for Gary Austin, a good friend of the site and known as RetroAviation here. He will be sorely missed.

To anyone in the "Lil" camp. We received a Sperry gyroscopic sight for the B-24 lower ball turret

If you're interested, let me know

How is the maintenance coming along on her? Any chance she will be in Lancaster on September 1?

I'm so glad its back to being the Lil'.. I never did like the other name.
Anyways I am not sure if it has been covered but the Lil flew in Mexico as an executive transport for PEMEX (Mexican Petrol) from 1959 to 67 as the XC-CAY (In Mexico XA- Commercial, XB-Privately Owned, XC- Goverment)

In the 90's when the CAF visited Mexico ( I think 91) I got the opportunity of seeing her fly once again on Aztec skies.. At the time my dad was a flight instructor in the Air Force Academy and because the show was in the military base I had the unique opportunity of seeing many of the aircraft up and personal; I was "little" as you can see in the picture but it was so amazing I still remember...
My dad never misses an opportunity to have fun...

Anyways I love this gal.. Hopefully I will see her again
Cheers,
S.

Okay, I KNOW this has been asked before, but is there somewhere a cache of most or all of the pics that were on this thread at one point or another? Thanks.

Hope this is OK...
I have found the photos that Gary posted along with this thread ( and some others).
I collected them from on-line sources shortly after his death in 2009.
I have posted them on my Flickr page...I don't know if this all of them or not...It would be great to have them placed back in this thread...I don't know if it could be done...I don't have the time for sure.
Anyway...here they are...

Thanks Zane.
I know that was a monumental & sometimes painful undertaking.
It WOULD be nice if somehow they could be put back into the thread, but at least it gathers most of them in one place again.
Now the next question is ...... is there any way to permanently turn that page over to WIX (just in case you fall up a flight of stairs or get hit by a runaway snail or something) ?
Well Done, Sir.

Well done indeed Zane!

Gary/BomberFlight's Lil/927 run was the greatest thread since the Wright Bros. stitched Pride Of The West. The thread and the pictures desperately need to be reunited. Yeah I know, just saying.

Hi,
It's perhaps possible to reunited the various Gary's posts with the pictures. Probably not directly in this forum but in a static copy of this thread.
I could have a look on that.
The point is knowing if the pictures retrieved and backuped have kept the same file name. Otherwise...
And of course, there is the question of the property of these pictures : I don't want to offend someone.
Regards
Iclo

Awhile back I created an archive of sorts for this thread at
http://old927.warbirds-online.org and I have all the pictures stored. One if the projects I have planned is to make a static archive of this thread as well as reinserting the pictures into the original thread. I will look and see what I can do tomorrow.
