Actually, the XP-73 designation was assigned to Howard Hughes' D-2 aircraft, but went unused as Hughes decided not to take up the fighter designation for his aircraft, nor to eventually sell it to the AAF.

OK, MEA CULPA- The info was sent to me from a formerly reliable source so I screwed up by not doing my due diligence first.
That particular source is now on 'Double secret probation'.

If you look at the link above there is a whole site of aircraft designed and built with photoshop.

There were 2 other references to it. Both told enough of a story to make you think about it. But if I haven't heard of it in 50 years of reading about WWii planes it probably doesn't exist.
