This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I have to agree with George. Displaying her in the condition she was in when recovered, after 70 years of vandalism just doesn't make sense to me.
I think another option would be to address her corrosion issues; re-install what components you can, including plexi (remember her plexi was intact up through the 90s...for the most part); and yes paint the exterior. This would leave her mostly intact and tell a better story to the great mass of uninformed tourist that will see her.
I have the Air Classics article from 76 that shows her amazingly intact. Didn't I read that Tallichet himself had her stripped out, along with the Black Cat Pass bird in the 70s? I know I read an article where it is mentioned that her original machine guns are still in existence in PNG.

Is there a chance they could restore her to how she was in the 60's and 70's? Completely restoring her to static condition seems useless since there enough B-17's like that. My personal favorite static B-17 is Kermit weeks because it looks like a damaged B-17

Never seen any of Kermit's aircraft, but a restoration would back to the way she looked the day she rolled off the line would be great to see. Not many, if any, Forts like that.
