So it went from a "cut up unlimited" to being cut up even further in its conversion to a TF-51, right? Afterwards it had even fewer original parts than it did before.

But the new, non-original, non-cut up parts look more like the original, non-cut up parts than the cut up original parts did so it's better now than it was when it had the cut up original parts. That's clear, right?

I think you could make a case that being Sumthin’ Else made it a historic aircraft in it's own right.
But as long as it gets to punch holes in clouds it's doing the right thing, and as a TF-51 it gives an opportunity for (some of) the masses say they flew A Reno racer.
