YAK 3 Scheme

Sat Mar 24, 2012 8:36 pm

Folks,

Does anyone out there in WIX land know the details of the scheme behind Arthur Dovey's Yak 3M in New Zealand?

All I have on it is a note from him indicating the following that was taken from a document on the scheme chosen by the late Ray Hanna:-

Jak -3 Bohatera Zw. Radz. S.W.Nosowa, pilota 150 GPM w koncu 1944 rok

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I've tried to fiond references etc but to little avail and so I thought I would throwe it out to the ether.

Cheers

Hiya Mustang51,
There's a great book out by Gavin Conroy with top quality photos and histories of the top-shelf fighters based/restored in New Zealand called "Precious Metal".

The section on Yak-3 ZK-YYY says this about the scheme: "There (Pioneer Aero Restorations Ltd) it was completed and painted in the colours of Russian fighter pilot Lt. SW Nosow of the 150 Guard Fighter Regiment/13 Air Division in 1945."

I'm sorry I can't offer more information. She is a stunning aircraft and is a treat to watch as Arthur progressively learns the ropes. Each display seems to be a little bit more adventurous, and it's wonderful to have him and the aircraft on our circuit.

Zac,

Many thanks for that.

That seems to line up with the information that Arthur sent to me. I shall also pass it on to him. Would love to find out more about the scheme and the history of the pilot and unit. That's given me a great start.

You going to Wanaka?

My pleasure! Please pass on my thoughts to Arthur of the aircraft and his displays.

Sadly I have to miss it (been religiously since '04) due to my two jobs and student allowance STILL not even letting me pay all the bills, so my only big show will be the RNZAF 75th this weekend.
