We got to wondering where we might be able to store some pig meat once we are done out at the ranch so one of our illustrious volunteers got in the nose to assess that compartment. We also looked at the bomb bay and rear compartment. All in all, we think we are good for more than 4000 lbs. If we could just figure out how to put some containers on the wing racks, we could triple our load. I mean, if the Spitfires could be modified to carry beer kegs under the wings for the hop over the Channel during the Big One, why can't we figure out how to hang pigs under em?? Dressed out, of course... well, whatever is left of em after the 50's get done. You get the idea. I guess if Dean finally delivers on the keg, we could hang that in the bomb bay to cool. We might have to climb up a bit to chill the meat so why not? Love it when a plan comes together!! JR

That shot of the feet in the gun bay brings back a memory. I once had to get up in there to change out a relay. We once had a case of what they called "runaway guns". Pilot said when he released the trigger, the guns kept firing for some time. After some communication back to the states with someone,(have no clue who) it was suggested that we change out a relay that's up in there somewhere. Wasn't a real pleasant job as I recall, having to change it on the flight line in the sun. I think they called it a gun firing relay or something. Only thing I recall is it having a lot of wires on it.
Wouldn't be a problem for me today, as I doubt seriously if I could fit in there anymore!!

Hey Randy, do you remember Scott Carson? He arrived 11/11/66 and was part of the 1st Air Commandos and the 609th. He was an E-5 Armament Crew Chief and was there for 13 months. He's the retired CEO of Boeing Commercial Aircraft, and he purchased that beautiful A-26A prop blade all you guys signed last year in Florida. He is very proud of it.

I've asked for a picture of him and the prop, but don't yet have one I can share.

Can't honestly say that the name rings a bell, but if he was there 11/11/66, we were definitely on the same flight line. At that time, there were a good many people rotating in to replace us. Got a pic around here of two guys that came in, but don't think either one was an E-5. I'll try to find it.
Sure glad someone got the prop that will appreciate the history behind it.

Randy, what Denis is actually doing in there is trying to take out the remnants of the canvas curtain that separated the gun compartment from the cockpit. It had a zipper on part of it so it could be opened to access the back of the instrument panel and radios behind it. There are some electrical components in there as well. We have to replace this curtain, and the way it is mounted, the nose will have to be removed to get at it. There is a plan to do this depending on whether we get new radios donated since we will have a lot of work to do on the panel. More about this later. Cheers, JR

Rick... sharp eye, you spotted the problem, but what goes on this attach fitting? Any idea?? Jerry D. delivered this newly fabricated support (black) today and it lined up perfectly. Nice to have an engineer with connections!! Thanks, Jerry. JR

This is about where the support will go in the wheel well.... just a little lower than shown. Clue, the attach fitting will be on the lower, forward side of the support. What will be attached there to this fitting?? It is so nice to think about parts going back on instead of taking them off!!! The wheel well should be finished and ready for paint by next Saturday!!! Yea!!! JR
