Okay, next one.

Blotted out the reg again, but it seems unfair to make you guess a DC-3/C-47 without any clues, so I'll give the photo place and date: Bi-State Parks, July 1980.

It looks like the N # hasn't changed as you've blanked it out-

That happens to be true in this case, but I would have blanked it either way, because it is not very hard to search a former registration.

Apparently, at some point it was badly frightened by PIEDMONT AIRLINES

I guess DC-3/C-47s are not a good type for this sort of topic. Most of the individual planes are not well known enough. So I'll post the answer and a few more C-47s that I was going to do separately, and pick a new type for my next WATN.

The subject of this thread is C-47-DL 42-32832, now N5106X. This is a D-Day paratroop drop veteran with the 53rd Troop Carrier Squadron. As of late 2010, it is back in its D-Day markings and with Scott Glover in Texas. It has no entry in the Warbird Registry.

Next up is DC-3-455 N486C. Originally built for American Airlines, it went instead to the USAAF as C-49K serial 43-2000. It was photographed in Missouri in July 1988. In 2009 it was reportedly in derelict condition at Vichy, MO. Again, No WR entry.

Here we have C-47-DL N18255. I don't have a military serial for this one. Its current whereabouts are the bottom of the sea off the approach end of the San Juan, Puerto Rico airport, where it was ditched in a landing undershoot April 4, 2001.

Finally (for now), C-47B-35-DK 44-77113. This went to the RAF/RCAF as KP227, later Canadian AF 12906. Last reported flying in Sweden with the Vallentuna Aviation Club, registered ES-AKE (Estonian, but apparently just to avoid red tape). Again, no WR entry. Hard to keep track of all these Gooneys!

ES-AKE has now reverted back to its former Congolese registration. The Swedish owner used to operate an airline in the Congo, having previously flown CIA B-26s and T-28s there during the civil war.
