I saw that in the FAA daily incident report...I figured it was a fire fighting or external lift AH -1.

Glad the crew is okay.

The Army Aviation Heritage Foundation has been selling off some stuff in recent years, anyone know more about the organization?

Gahhh! Aren't there only about five AH-1 Cobras in private hands? I've very pleased that the occupants are unhurt. Likewise I hope there are enough spares available for someone to get the bird airborne again before it goes to the scrapper or is absorbed back into the governement's black hole.

Army Aviation has 5 flyable and about 10 more in storage. They've thinned the ranks out a bit, but still have plenty of aircraft. This is one of the Cobras they received from the Army.

I would be interested to read the synopsis of this mishap....I fail to see anything of the tail rotor prior to impact, pretty rough terrain for a running landing God was surely with them in this case.

Preliminary Accident & Incident Data from the FAA indicates a hydraulic failure.

In my opinion, it is simply unreal how fortunate these two aviators were. It's so awesome to see them standing next to the wreck with what seems like not a scratch on them. Wow.
