Were there really any D models flown by them?

At last!

In among all the p1ssing and whining about the wrong model P-51s, wrong style of markings, and other irrelevant trivia, somebody gets the point!

This from the guy that spent all of that time posting about the wrongness of the Lindbergh Miles in some British museum?

I am so glad you guys feel the same way about it! My friends have been defending this tragedy since it came out Friday. My wife was ready to walk out simply at the stupid cheesy "80's credits" at the beginning. Thankfully we did not spend any money on the movie as the tickets were free due to a previous mistake by the theter.

I didn't even like the soundtrack, and found myself constantly looking for ANYTHING that was real at all. Bad acting, bad script, and insanely overdone CGI.

I just thank god Lucas didn't throw aliens in it somewhere.

Now defunct 21st Century sold a 1/18 Mustang "Bunny" a few yearsback. You can probably find one well marked up on epay. Here's a "classic" pic I took at GML. "Tuskegee Airmen" love their 21st Century models. They bought them from Dave and Sally Aikens at http://www.aikensairplanes.com .........John

Here is the quote from the website. It states "From Sicily and the mainland of Italy, they went to southern France and knocked out the German radar stations that supported the Normandy beaches. Without the success of this, there would not have been a D-Day."
What don't you understand about what it states on the site? It is as much of an exageration as the 'no bombers lost'.

After looking at the NBCC story, it seems to me you're combining both paragraphs to make one point. Not true By doing that, you maybe discounting their activity in Sicily and Italy (the first paragraph). You need to look at the website a third time
I was looking at each paragraph on it's own merits.

1. The first paragraph discusses their activity in Sicily and Italy. True :supz:

2. The second paragraph you listed discusses their follow-on activity that supported "the Normandy beaches". Not true

See where I am going?

By that site continuing to promote such falsehoods they are detracting from what these men really did. :(

The Great Escape scene is just the tip of the iceberg for LUCAS!

As far as 'scene stealing' from Mr. Lucas.., that is his MO

Check out Youtube for Star Wars and Dambusters.., they play them back to back and then even overlay the Star Wars Deathstar trench scene with the Dambusters scene.., it is hilarious if not outright theft!

Same thing with the aerial combat scenes in Battle of Britain. Lucas took some of those most memorable scenes and stuck them in Star Wars as well.

Found a couple interesting links on the 325th Checkertail Clan website.

This one covers aviation art highlighting the 332nd FG. All are great, and some are outstanding, especially Stan Stokes.

I was thinking the same thing.

True. However as a reader looking at your post that is not familiar with all the historical details, I thought the first paragraph was false too until I looked at the whole article for full context. Why post the the first paragraph that is true with the second paragraph that is alledgedly false? No doubt....if the second paragraph is indeed false, it should be corrected by the owners of the site.

No worries.....all is good.

If you called in good faith, that was a horrible response from the person on the other end of the phone. It doesn't do anyone any good.

One of the forums I read had a poster who claimed there was a P-51H in the movie.

Can anyone confirm/deny that? I haven't seen the flick.

Well, if you read it on the Internet, it must be true :D

Highly unlikely. There were 3 P-51s used for the filming in Czech, all D-models. The additional shooting done in NorCal last year used George Perez' D-model as a backdrop.
