The overall shape kinda looks like a Liberator rear fuselage since George Ventress' farm is so close, but I'm probably waaay off.

Yup...figured that would be an easy one.
As for the fuselage thingy, the general dimensions and hatch location are about right for a Lancaster..but as you noticed it's made from steel. An escape/firefighting training aid perhaps?
