OK, back to the subject at hand. I thought
Rocco handled himself with class on Warbird
Radio and explained the situation well. He
answered my #1 question on funding. Like
us they sink or swim on their own. No state
or federal budget.

So now, who will be the first to step up and
write a check or volunteer with them? I work
at the battleship Alabama and I volunteer at
NNAM. Who will be the first to put your money
or sweat where your mouth is?

I think the point is being missed. Does the more accurate paint cost more? I honestly have no idea if the correct shade of blue is more expensive.

Not sure which is more expensive. Obviously the answer has to be.. "a repaint" is more expensive.

If they start a 'repaint our aircraft to be historically accurate' fund.,. I'll kick in $500.00!

As a matter of fact.. I'll guarantee I can get all the painting and supplies donated for FREE!!!!

Manpower will be another issue.., but I bet if they run an add in the paper or do a raffle to be able to come and work on the Lex for the day they'll get volunteers from that 'High School' he is so proud of.

I listened to the interview. If I remember correctly we had 10-15 volunteers just for the aircraft. Sounds like they have 2 now, ouch. Also sounds like the same guy is in charge of restoration when I was there. He states though that they don't consider themselves an aviation museum but a ship museum. Understandable.

I apologize for foul language. But it was a bit uncalled for insulting me on a national radio station. I was told someone offered to donate a large amont of money to get some of the planes painted correctly and you all said NO.

I'm listening to the podcast now, and I have to agree, I think that the host should have made a more broad-stroke approach with the cussing. I have to agree with his intent, but I don't agree with how he went about it. I do wonder why specifically this was stated with Mr. Rocco on the horn.

I have visited the Lex while I was stationed at NASCC last year, and I went in May or June in 2011. I enjoyed the ship, I truly did. I never found the bowling alley

I actually really liked the escalator on board too. I know it's not original, but it was humorous.

The aviation portion, I will admit, I was disappointed in, but the only aircraft that I scratched my head at was the Huey Cobra and the A-3. I never noticed the other issues, but I was somewhat pressed for time when I visited. The only aircraft that I noticed was the T-34 due to my time flying them, and it was missing flight surfaces that they could easily get replaced with 15 miles to the east with the high-time T-34's that occasionally sit in piles near the sea wall. My feelings were not hurt, but I just found that one odd.

Come to think of it, I never found the bar either....

It's one of the biggest tourist attraction in Corpus, and it's worth a visit. While you're there, check out the Aquarium that is just across the bridge. Bar-none, I found it better than Seaworld San Antonio.
