John Daniels and Loy Sharon eat lunch together just about every day in the cafeteria at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mount Vernon.

When the two men get together, they generally talk about the St. Louis Cardinals or family and friends. They don’t talk much about war.

The two men, both 91, had never officially met until they happened to sit at the same cafeteria table last June. But as they chatted a bit about their backgrounds, they discovered that they shared a hard-fought bond. A bond that after more than 66 years is still strong.
