Anyone know about the aircraft being used for the new TV series Pan Am? Any real 707s involved in the filming?

No idea if any real 707's were used in the filming, but I know that they apparently shot a few scenes with the Historical Flight Foundation's Eastern Air Lines DC-7B that flew up to Long Island several months ago. They put some temporary Pan Am markings on one side of the DC-7B to shoot the scenes.

You would think that John Travolta would be all over this series.

I haven't seen the show but I would imagine it's more about the people and less about the airplanes they worked in. No sense spending money on repainting and flying a 707 that might have a grand total of twenty minutes screen time in a season.

I see by todays birdcage liner that the Nielsens were off around 33% below last weeks ratings-

They just called and asked me to find for them a flying 707. By the end of next week, no less. No, they can't use Travolta's; it has been too highly modified to sit in for a 1960s airliner.

I doubt I'll be able to help them find a legal one. (No problem, they said, we'll pay the fines...)

Obviously there's money available. Anybody know where there is one? And no, don't tell me "Miami," I need a name and contact number or e-mail.

N88ZL - http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/N88ZL.html
Operator is Jet Aviation - http://www.jetaviation.com/
However, this is also a heavily modified Corporate Jet.

That's the only one outside of Iran I'm aware of beyond the remaining Omega Air 707 tanker.

Don't spend too much time on it though, latest I heard was that it's on the chopping block after another 33%+ drop in viewership.

Turns out they are planning to use Travolta's. It was the only one we could find that was flyable and available. It was scheduled to arrive at FRG last Sunday afternoon (10/23), but NBC told me it had "mechanical issues" and didn't make it. Don't know the extent of the problem. Could be minor, could be a deal-breaker.

Stephan, thanks for the updates. Any chance of some photos once the 707 is in its "movie makeup"?

According to several news reports the plane has not been repainted but has had a "vinyl wrap" with Pan Am markings applied.
