Any reports? Pictures? Was it a rain-out?

It was a great show on Saturday. The sky certainly unleashed on Friday night, but Saturday turned out to be gorgeous. I hear today was great as well.

Today in Northern Colorado I noticed a heavy with a tall tail at about 2000' AGL and about 2 miles away it was hard to ID with the broken cloud cover but clearly by the sound it was radial powered. I wouldn't be surprised to hear it was a Privateer with the loud exhaust sound from the B-25 QECs and the really tall tail. I thought perhaps it was FiFi but then remembered AirSho was going on so unlikely. Anyone know of any heavies in the area? Anyone know if there was a PB4Y at AirSho that could have been on its' way back home?

Great show, fewer birds than normal but some of that was weather-related and some due to fuel costs continuing to escalate. Bombers were impressive. Fifi had a small problem (not engine related) and didn't fly in the show Sunday, nor did the B-24. B-2 fly-over made up for that in a way.

The B-29 had a nose gear glitch. Someone had moved the clutch disconnect lever, then moved it back to the correct position but it never re-engaged. So when we took off the nose gear stayed down and locked. When we got back on the ground we trouble shot the system, and did a gear retraction test and it work as advertized. By then it was too late to fly the Sunday show.

Arrived Friday afternoon with two of my sons and two granddaughters. Wind was fierce, kicked up a lot of dust on the I-20 coming out of Abiline. Checked in at the Hampton, where the white caps kept getting in the beer in the hot tub. Rained hard that night, and got up to heavy clouds and slow rain Saturday AM. After breakfast, it started clearing.

Made the gates at 10:30, and browsed around the museum for a while. We navigated the water puddles to the main area for the National Anthem, then up front and center for the start of the airshow.

During the airobatic display with the Extra 300, if you were there, you may remember the announcement about the guy with the handheld radio...If it dosen't get put up , the airshow would be stopped....I don't know nothin about it....an that's all I got to say bout that.

Loved the Tora display, those guy's got it down....excellent display. The bomber fly-by was spectacular...particularly moving was the first pass where the two B-17's...Texas Raider, and Sentimental Journey led the B-24/ C-87 in front of the stands...they were stacked in line with the lead Fortress being the lowest, with the following each a little higher than the previous aircraft...They were followed by the four B-25's, and the C-47, and a varient of the Beech 18.

Fighters were great as well, and very excited to see the Helldiver fly for my first time.

Would have been a lot better if Attu Warrior could have made it! Waited for the B-2 Saturday, but it must have been in stealth mode, same for the A-26 Invaders.

Had to head back Saturday nite....Seemed like something was missing, but overall, it was pretty good. Only bad I witnessed was the rude folks at the Chick-fillet, customers, not the hired hands....

I'll try and add some more ~ but using photoshop on a 9 inch laptop is slow and painful ~ so you may have to be patient until I get back home in England

Peter,

Did you stay at the Baymont while in Midland? The reason I ask is because I did and on Monday morning took their shuttle bus to the terminal with a gentleman from the UK. Currious if that was you!

John
