I just saw the headline in my local paper declaring that a DC-10 and four Herkybirds ...".are now indefinitely stationed in Texas to fight wildfires." This from the head kahuna of the US Forest Service.
They will be based at Austin Bergstrom Airport for the forseeable future while the fire danger remains high, according to Congressman Michael McCaul's office.
Without jumping on too big of a soapbox, It's about flipping time. A firefighter in Waller County told McCaul that the DC-10's appearance was like "the cavalry coming in." I watched it make a drop on todays noon news and man, stuff just KEPT coming out.
Oh yeah, Jason, ask your pink friend if they got the Forest service truck clean.....
all this from "Staff and Wire Reports"
The guy I went to school with posted pictures on Facebook of the pink firetruck and himself. Pretty funny stuff.
I started turning some of the burnt up parts that I was able to salvage from the fire into a mock WACO like biplane front end yesterday. I think I will have to paint some sort of Phoenix nose art on it when I'm done. I'm using the burned L29 section as the main fuselage, a section of wing off of a Piper Tomahawk that had one end burned off, and the landing gear of a 1940's Aeronca. The engine cowling is a restaurant vent hood turned on its side. No stupid fire is going to stop me.
