JDK, it was in Derek James' book Schneider trophy aircraft 1913-31 pp242,246-7, also the ram air tests were mentioned on p 188 of Robert Hirsch's book Schneider Trophy Racers

Edit: also mentioned in L.J.K Setright's book The Power to Fly, P 102-104, although I am aware that whilst this is a very readable book and generally well argued he does have some controversial opinions about some machines, in particular the Napier Sabre

Yet more detail is in Edward Eves' book The Schneider Trophy Story, p217-223, which is actually slightly contradictory to James but makes fascinating reading
