Monday, July 16, 1945. Our target tonight is the city of Oita, on the coast of Kyushu. We have bombed airfields there a couple of times and tonight we are going to try to eliminate the city. This is the first fire raid on any city in Kyushu. We’re carrying 180 of the little 100-pound fire bombs. There isn’t supposed to be very much opposition.

Sixty-six years to the day after Staff Sgt. Jim Swalwell wrote about the attack on Oita in his World War II diary, his younger brother Joe Swalwell climbed into the cockpit of a Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber with a copy of the diary in his hand.

When people ask CAF members why we work so long and hard to KEEP THEM FLYING, all we need to do is point to articles such as this!

It was a pleasure having Mr. Swalwell fly with us!

Chris,
Great news about the B-29 Flight. Your group operating FiFi is a fitting tribute to these GREAT WW2 Veterans.
May FiFi fly for many years and host many air crews.

I am in a new hire class for a regional airline to fly a Beech 1900 and had a relative that served on a B-29. Is there a way I can get on with your squadron to become involved and maybe fly FiFi one day?

All you need to do is join the CAF and the Squadron and you never know what you will end up doing!

I have been blessed this summer to spend about 8 weeks on tour with "FIFI", serving as a crewmember and having the privilege of listening to many of these men and women who built serviced and flew these grand ladies tell us their stories.

I cannot tell you what a privilege it is to serve with "FIFI"!
