This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Instead of all WIXers pooling their money to buy a warbird, I have a better suggestion: Take the money you would have dumped into such a silly endeavour and donate it to your local warbird museum that already has warbirds needing restoration and maintenance, along with some of your time to help restore and maintain those aircraft! If you don't live near a museum, pick out a far-away museum and send them some money. They WILL appreciate it.
While I'm on my soap box. . . I could use some donation money to buy parts for the VFM F-86F restoration!

Amen, and we could use some of that dough to finish buying the last of the paint for the Harpoon.

I vote we get an N3N for each region where a group of WIXers reside. Simple and there are sitting around in the weeds.
Each group can drink beer and discuss who will keep it, when it will get worked on, what standards it will be restored, rebuilt, replicated or otherwise.
More beer could be consumed when discussions develop over gold cad or silver. Cotton or ceconite, What shade of paint is correct.
Jack will be asked for various photos and please send it in color so we will know exactly how it should be.
Too funny! Seriously, there are all kinds of ways a person can "get into" warbirds if said person has the motivation AND the right attitude. If there was a young person in the San Antonio area that was interested, I could personally get them farther along if they were willing to do a bit of work themselves. It's that easy!

We have a program in our organization. You really progress if you stick to it. Some people have compared the experience to a cross between Kevin Bacon's experience in "Animal House" and Sylvester Stallone's imprisonment, escape, and return to prison in "Rambo."
If you want to get started, you have to learn our Organizational Anthem.

On a more serious note, I think that there are things that WIX COULD do more effectively. Perhaps a "warbird authenticity" tent could be devised and WIXers could man it at various airshows around the country. Or some sort of educational tent. With the talent we've got on this website, we could probably get a nice bit of gear to sell at the tent, too - T-shirts, paintings, posters, etc... and maybe even some worn out parts.
