B-25 incident at Jardin Ranch 26 Mar 11

Anyone know which B-25 had the nose gear failure at the Jardin Ranch today? From the news reports it sounds like there was more than a little damage as they reported there was a fire in/on/around the right engine just afterward. From the news, everyone onboard was fine. Only reason it came onto the news so fast is that Gov. Perrys' wife was one of the passengers.

No matter who's a/c it is, I hope the damage is minimal and they have her back in the air soon.

I guess he doesn't reserve nose overs just for his tail draggers. In any case, it sucks. Hope they get it fixed and back up soon.

I cringed at that comment too. Unfortunately, that's how a lot of the public perceives warbirds..dangerous old junkers that shouldn't be flying. Frankly, I'd sooner trust my butt to most warbirds than a commercial airliner..warbirds tend to be much more pampered.

A few years ago I was chatting with a coworker about what we'd do if we hit the lottery (the powerball jackpot was umpty-bazillion that week.) I said I'd give at least a couple million to get Fifi flying again (this was when they were still looking for sponsors to buy new engines.) He was baffled..he couldn't understand why I'd spend that kind of money on an old junk airplane when for the same amount I could have a brand-new snazzy luxury jet. I finally got him to sort of understand by using a classic car analogy..saying you could buy and restore a classic for the same amount as a showroom new one.

Okay, I have heard of Rod Lewis (no relation) but I don't keep up with the owners by name and DOB who has what, I just try to keep up with where the B-25s are.
Now, Which B-25 was involved in the mishap? November ?????

gary1954, thanks for that, I was just sitting here feeling kind of dense and hopeless. I've been playing around with warbirds since the 70's, and have yet to figure out how everyone seems to know exactly who is who and what is where and all that stuff. I bust knuckles and get greasy, but have to ask which B-25 it was also.

OK, everyone (including the newspapers and stations) have it all wrong.

The B-25 noted above was NOT the airplane involved in this instance. It was a hulk purchased from Aero Trader and just painted up to look like Mr. Lewis' B-25. This incident did not happen as noted above, but is actually a continuation of the movie being filmed as noted a while back. Let me give you some real information so everyone will just stop spreading these unnecessary rumors.

Here is the plot of the movie being filmed.

Our Governor of Texas has decided to go ahead and secede from the United States and has been secretly preparing everything that is needed in order to complete this. He realizes that the moment he makes the announcement, the US government will remove all war assets from the state of Texas, leaving a huge hole in security for the New Republic of Texas (NRT). While having a secret closed door meeting with his new cabinet it is noted that two of his largest benefactors, Mr. Rad Lewie and Tommy and Donny Friedcan, happen to own probably the largest combined collection of WWII warbirds in the world especially when they draw in all of their friends who are warbird owners.

A secret meeting is planned for late March at a undisclosed location in South Texas and all of the warbird owners come together to plan the creation of the NRT Air Force. It is announced that all the warbirds are to become fully operational with all weapons systems fully functional. Meanwhile, the Governors wife (played by Angelina Jolie), who is an accomplished pilot herself, is in attendance at the meeting and while taxiing out for a practice sortie in one of the NRT bombers, is attacked by a group of black ops unit members from the Old United States thereby rendering one of the NRT bombers in-effective.

I will leave the rest of the grand movie to your imaginations.

(and can you imagine warbird owners putting such valuable planes to such risk? Even the non-airplane types will know this to be a ridiculous plot element.)
