That was NOT rebels hitting that one, sport!

That was a REBEL aircraft!

Unfortunately the pilot was KIA.

From what I've read, they were too high for AAA. A missile hit in that location would have broken the aircraft in half, no way a misslle would have punched a hole through the guts of the engine and emerged from the other side. I think a catastrophic engine failure is probable - something fast enough and devastating enough to convince the crew they had to get out at high speed/high altitude rather than stay with it to a more safer ejection envelope.

If indeed it was that Lakenheath bird, it is almost 20 years old.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... ghazi.html

"Libyan rebels shot down a warplane over their eastern stronghold Saturday as the opposition accused Moammar Gadhafi's government of defying calls for an immediate cease-fire an launching a sea and land assault.

But later rebels admitted that the plane had been their own and had been a victim of mistaken fire by their own anti-aircraft defences around Benghazi."

Sounded like a squadron of Huey's. Must of been their angle of attack on the blades.., but good grief it sounded like Apocalypse Now

Definitely not true. 100mm AA fire can reach up into the high 30s with ease.

I was only trying to be helpful. Your original post which doesn't mention the F-15E or any other aircraft for that matter was inaccurate.

Thanks to the links I provided you in my previous posts you can now say, "I know the rebels could hit the side of a gun with a barn in regards to AA".

You're Welcome,
Mike

i read in yesterday's newspaper that there was a concerted effort to bomb the downed f - 15 to destroy any classified systems / technology from falling in the hands of the libyians or any other anti u.s. foes even though this f- 15 was an older warbird. the article stated mission complete.

None of my posts claim an F-15E was shot down by AA. Perhaps you should take the time to read them again?

Maybe you are confused with aircraft identification?
I'll post the picture again so there isn't any confusion. This is a Mig that was brought down by Rebel AA.
