Need help locating drill rod Material Spec 57-108

Hello all,

I am in the process of assembling the NA-64's fuel control gear box assembly (Same as AT-6 Part #36-48016) and also the two flap control gear boxes. The gears are attached to the shafts by a steel pin that is peened on both ends. The assembly drawings show that the pin is made from 1/8" Steel Drill Rod, Material Spec 57-108. I have done a search on the web for that material spec and nothing is showing up unless it is a North American specific material number.

Any insight would be great.

Hi,

I own a machine shop and we make alot of componets for vintage airplanes. I would guess that the Material spec 57-108 is a North American part number. I would recommend using 4140 HT (Heat Treat) material. The tensil strength is high and you could still peen it over. It will be available through your local material house. I can supply you with more material specs and a material house, if you need it.
