What Tim means by "It's not a warbird Yet" is that by a WIX definition a Warbird is a military aircraft that has SURVIVED military service and continues to exist after that service...

The C-17 WILL be a Warbird in the future...I wonder if there will ever be a civilian version around? hmmm The C-47 may be the best bet for a civy transporter in the year 2050...

In 1986,I lived in Cerritos,Ca.and had a Dc-9 land 100 yards from my house.The first thing I noticed before the crash was the engines going to full power and ever since I have had to go outside and look whenever I hear jet engines change power settings.the DC-9 lost its tail when hit by the Piper Archer,"which crashed 40 yard from my front door" the pilots went to full power cause they had no other options.anyway,I used to live under the flight path of Los Alamitos reserve base. on more than one occasion I heard an airplane engines change pitch and I went out on my rear patio to see and out of the low altitude cloud cover right over my apartment would drop a C-5 with its gear down.it was both huge and scary.those suckers are huge!

The C-5 is huge, but the Russian Antov is something else!.. Few years back they were using one to fly oil field equipment out of Tulsa. My home is app 12 miles due south of the airport. I had that sucker coming over the house at barely 800ft trying like he-l-l to gain altitude! July take-off's in Tulsa can be fun!
