I am with you on that one, Tom. :( The Thunderbirds scheme was a beauty. But at least now we have a Super Sabre that is likely to eventually be seen flying at air shows around the country. :D

Rick, can you tell us anything on the new scheme? Like will it an honor a specific squadron or veteran? Or is it a surprise?

Here is a pretty straight forward hint: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=39657

Here's what they should paint it as:

Plus guys, I'm sorry after 27 years of crewing I can't stand the thunderbirds.

Poor choice of words on my part. I meant that the CF can't obtain an F-105 to fly due to government restrictions. Yet they've already obtained two vietnam era jets through congressional help and now have a third (Im assuming the sale for the F-100 was facilitated completely in the private sector since this was already a privately owned flyable warbird).

Im going to also assume that the TA-4, F-4, and F-100 are just as deadly as the F-105 (Strictly speaking in a combat scenario). Looking at it from the government's point of view: They see this organization (The Collings Foundation) operating WW II and Vietnam era aircraft in a safe and professional manner with a very long respectable track record. Since this organization is expanding there Vietnam collection and have already proved of being capable of operating 2 high profile former combat jets, and now just obtained a third, what would the holdup be to acquire an 105? Is there something Im missing that makes the Thunderchief more of a hazard to the government than what's already out there?

good wording

Very nice paint scheme. I love the Air Force Cold War finishes especially from the 1956-1963 time period like this one and like the one that Dean Cutshall's F-100F is done in.

If I remember these are from a 1968 deployment.

The Collings Foundation is very good about honoring many people with their aircraft. They even change up some of the schemes from time to time. I think everyone has presented great schemes, and I like the one that they are doing too. So down the road maybe they will do the same with this one. For right now I am just happy this one is not on a pole! I am thankful to the past owner for maintaining this aircraft, and to the CF for picking up the legacy from here.

Do you mean 1958?? The photos from Libya have to be from anywhere from about 1955 up to about the EARLY sixties at the latest. By about 1964 to 1965 they were starting to or had removed most of the "Buzz numbers" from the lettering/numbering schemes and by 1968 all the aluminum finishes had been replaced by SEA camouflage.

I AGREE - the best thing about this Super Sabre is that it is NOT on a pole and that the Collings Foundation is going to keep it flying!

That makes sense. With NO buzz number on this F-100F, the photo would be right in line for 1966. My guess is it was repainted to Camouflage no later than sometime in 1967.
