Re: Evening Activities for June 30th

mrhenniger wrote:Scott and Ryan will be arriving late Wednesday (June 30th). James and his better half will be in the area as well, and of course Andrew lives near-by.

So is anyone interested in a get-togehter in the evening of the 30th?

I recently borrowed some slides from a gentleman in Toronto who worked for Kenting Aviation doing aerial surveys in Northern Canada and Peru. He crewed B-17s, Hudsons, Canso, etc. and loaned me some interesting slides of those types. There are a few other surprises in his collection as well. Perhaps we could open a bottle of wine, set-up the slide projector and try to ID the aircraft in the pictures (the Hudsons/Lodestars/Electras can be hard to tell apart). Thoughts anyone?

Mike

I figured me and Ryan would hit town around dinner time and maybe we could all go out and get some dinner. The slides and wine sound good after dinner activity.

Sounds like a plan, or maybe order in pizza since Wednesday night would be a good dinner out night.

Let's work it out when you get here.

Ok, change of plans.

I'll be at the flying club at 0900L, so be prepared. I will air under the tyres by 0800L, so 50 minutes of flight should give me that arrival time.

Oops,

I forgot to check out the WIX gathering board until today!!

I will be there tomorrow. I will have the family in tow, so I'm not quite sure what time I will arrive. I hope by about 11:00 am. Just look for the guy with bright red hair (partially covered by a Spitfire ball cap) and three young boys in tow. You'll probably hear us coming first!!

Lets just hope the weather holds. Environment Canada forecast for tomorrow is: Cloudy with sunny periods. 60 percent chance of showers with the risk of a thunderstorm. Wind becoming southwest 20 km/h in the afternoon. High 26.

Ollie, you might even be able to walk over from the the airport to the museum. Depends on whether or not they will let you, but it certainly isn't far. Thought of a tail chase with SL721?! The museum website doesn't say anything about whether or not the Spitfire will be there, but I expect it will be. Sure hoping so anyways.

See you all tomorrow. Claim a good spot along the flight line. The museum is a great place for photography since the flight line is really close to the spectator line, and the sun is at your back.

The only problem is, is that darn chain link fence! But still the photo ops are good.

Good point Mike, but I don't think they'll fly THAT low. And it is doubtful that the Spitfire would land or take off there - hasn't in past years on Canada Day. And the Canso certainly won't.

See you tomorrow.

Hi every body

I will be there around 0900, may be earlier. I will have a black baseball hat with red Air Canada Jazz mark in the front.

See you tomorrow

Hi all,

Nice to have met at few fellow WIXers at the Canada Day festivities yesterday in Ottawa, even if it was only for the few minutes that my parental duties would allow. Hope you enjoyed the rest of the day, including the fireworks last night.

Look forward to seeing a few of the pictures you all took yesterday, especially since my timing was terrible - got there just as the Spitfire was displaying and was madly racing through the museum, kids in tow, each time that the B-25 passed by. No pictures for me yesterday, though I did discover during the Snowbirds flypast that my digital camera is not much good for airshow photography - too slow. Guess I'm sticking with film for a few more years.

Ollie, too bad the weather got in your way yesterday morning. Maybe we'll cross path later this year in Carp.

Ottawa WIX B-Flight Over

Fri Jul 02, 2004 11:41 am

Scott and Ryan left in one car, and Steve Tournay in another just a little while ago, bringing to an end the Ottawa WIX B-Flight.

We all had a great time. Wednesday night we sorted out the IDs off a number of aircraft featured in some slides that had been loaned to me. They were shots of various aircraft operated by Kenting in Canada, including B-17s, Hudsons and Cansos.

The largest number of people at the gathering occurred on Thursday at the museum. I believe it was our first tri-national WIX meet with James Kightly representing England, Scott and Ryan representing the U.S., and of course a number of Canadians. All had a great time. The best part was watching Ryan drool all over the B-24. I heard they are still cleaning it!

On Thursday evening Scott, Ryan, Steve, Catherine, and myself, bussed ourselves into the down-town and went to a concert on Parliament Hill including Tom Cochrane. That was fun! We were there with a huge number of jubilent Canadians, shoulder-to-shoulder, who also filled the streets around the hill. The concert ended with the start of the fireworks, which was an impressive display.

Friday morning we concluded the gathering with a chat on various topics at the Henniger Hilton.

Now I am trying to catch up on WIX.

Looking forward to seeing many of you a Geneseo!

Glad to hear you had a good time!

I was actually airborne for 4 minutes, until Montréal terminal told me about the multiple squall lines 15 miles West of me. I broke right and landed ASAP!

See you guys in Geneseo!!!

It was a very pleasant day to be with you my friends. I am very happy to pass a day with peoples having knowledge of aviation history and can saying more that "oh it's nice" about aviation details. It's not happen to me very often.

I am a little disappointed to not hear, probably because of the weather the sound of the Hawker Hind engine. I know, for somes, it's because of the location of the Beaufighter.

The B-25 and Spitfire display and the amazement of Ryan seeing a complete furnished B-24 interior were probably the highlights of the day.

I finally took a little more than 4 hours none stop driving to return to Quebec city. I didn't see the firework, but mother nature give me a couple of very nice lightning shows.

Take care everybody and see you one of these day

I'm sure mother nature did give you a good show!!! That was quite the storm soon after I left this afternoon. Et j'attends a ce que il y avais plus des tempets entre Ottawa et Quebec heir soir.

Salut,

Charles

On behalf of my dad (Bill) and myself, I would just like to say that it was great to meet some fellow WIX members at the Aviation Museum. It's always good to put some names and faces together. I hope everyone visiting Canada enjoyed their stay and had a safe trip home.

It was my second chance to attend the Canada Day Festivities at the museum. If there is any day to go to the Museum, July 1st is it!

I posted a few of photos to my webshots:

Take care,
