What is this Air Ministry part? I got it in a batch of stuff from an Australian auction. I'm assuming it's some kind of airplane part, but I honestly have no idea. Take a look at these photos:

My son put together a spreadsheet of Air Ministry/MOD ref numbers.
From his list-

6H Aircraft automatic pilot, Mks 4 and 8, major components, servicing spares and tools Aircraft instruments, flight simulators, automatic pilots, etc

What it was installed in or designed for is out of my pay scale.

G'Day Dean, I have no idea, even though I think I know where it came from!

I could make some wild guesses, as to what it is, but they won't be much use.

I'm sure the AM numbers gurus on the Key forum will tell us what it is in no time - if you aren't registered there I can ask for you.

(PS: It'll be off an aircraft, aeroplane, 'kite', or associated bits - no airplanes over here. )

G'day, James! Sorry for the mis-spelling, but we do tend to spell words a bit differently here in the 'States!

Any help that you can provide in identifying my mystery part will be much appreciated. I'm not registered on any other forums, so please do what you can.

And yes, I'm sure you do know where the part came from! The Morse keys are so-so at best, and some damage occurred in shipping due to poor packing. I'm not going to fuss over it. Lesson learned. But, hey, at least I got an interesting and unusual AIRplane part in the deal!

its an auto-control lever from an Avro Lincoln or more correctly a GAF Lincoln built in Australia, I bid on the box in the recent Hughes Trading auction at Kyneton but was unsuccessful, but would be interested in acquiring one for the Lincoln rebuild at the Australian National Aviation Museum.

Dean, Michael at our museum approached me today and asked if I "knew someone in Texas with Lincoln parts?" and proceeded to show me your donated part that has arrived safe and sound, again thankyou for your generous donation.

A part that will be able to tell an interesting story of travelling from Kyneton in Victoria, to Texas USA and then back to Moorabbin Victoria Australia, some 150km/100 miles from where it started, and now safely stored with all our other Lincoln parts.
