I would guess that it is a early version of the 57th Fighter wing logo, it's the USAF Fighter Weapons School. They flew F-80's starting in 1948...

Miramar NAS now Miramar MCAS is home of TOP GUN. Nellis is the home of the Air Force's version called Red Flag. I believe that is what they call it.
