Shuttleworth Collection Evening Air Display 16th July 2005

There really isn't anything else to equal the experience of an evening display at Old Warden when the weather's good. Saturday was one of those days where all the pieces fell into place to evoke the relaxed kind of magic that's unique to the Shuttleworth Collection.

The golden glow of the sunset shows these very special aeroplanes off very well indeed and the tones and reflections are a real treat to behold.

As I've mentioned in an earlier thread, the long-awaited first display flight of the recently restored Sopwith Pup was everything that the crowd had looked forward to, but I'll stop waxing lyrical and let the photos describe the rest of the show.

It took several attempts to capture the shadow of the Hawker Hind in the arc of the sunset shining on the propellor.










The first display flight of the Sopwith Pup in it's new RNAS balloon busting markings. The Pup will fly with the Le Prieur rockets attached at a later date.
















The moon was up, so it became a challenge to try to incorporate it into a shot













After a short interval to allow visiting 'planes to depart before dark, the Edwardian flying machines were wheeled out. The still evening air suits these aeroplanes, although it's far more of a challenge to photograph them in the poor light.
